Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. For example 15% of 200 is 0.15 × 200 = 30.
How do I find what percent one number is of another?
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. 30 is 15% of 200 because 30 ÷ 200 × 100 = 15.
How is percentage change calculated?
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the absolute old value and multiply by 100. Going from 200 to 250 is a 25% increase.
Why can't the base be zero?
A percentage of zero, or a change measured from zero, is undefined because it would require dividing by zero. Use the "A% of B" mode instead when the starting value is zero, or pick a non-zero reference value.
